The Minor Arcana @ Rock Shop

The Minor Arcana played to a small but attentive crowd Friday night at The Rock Shop. Their beautiful, electrifying music was balanced with smart, dark humor (as in: “Haven't you read Nietzsche before?”) Frontman Matt Landis - also the band's keyboard player – was given to quips such as: "I understand in these times it's hard to get excited about anything, but I feel pretty damn great." I have to say, I'm pretty excited about these guys too.

Despite a rough soundcheck and having to borrow instruments from other bands, openers Emilyn Brodsky and Anthony da Costa  put on a charming and fun set. If you like something quirky played on a ukulele (think: tUnE-yArDs) then you'd probably enjoy this too. Among other openers, Buried Beds were fun and lively, singing about magical creatures, and serial killers, among other topics.
