Tanglewood 2010

DSC06427
I arrived at Tanglewood straight from Brooklyn this afternoon, just in time to catch Christoph von Dohnanyi conduct a husky, fiery version of Beethoven's Violin Concerto (with Arabella Steinbacher.) The BSO is now making their way through Dvorak's lush, pastoral 8th symphony: a perfect soundtrack to lying back on the lawn on a perfect summer day.

This is an unusually diverse weekend at Tanglewood: I'll be back later tonight for Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, followed by Herbie Hancock's band tomorrow night (fresh from their appearance today at the Newport Jazz Festival.) I can't imagine anywhere else I'd rather be.
