Summer is officially here, and before you ship out to the Hamptons or the Cape for the summer, this is your reminder that it's also festival time here in NYC. As in past summers, we've added a "Summertime" section to the linkroll so you can easily access all of this year's festivals, concerts, and other musical happenings. Most of the music is outdoors; much of it is free (though for paid shows, ticket prices seem to be headed higher and higher.) And with several exciting new entries – the CBGB Festival, Catalpa, the new Lacoste Live series in Williamsnburg – this summer is shaping up to be busier (and better) than ever.
Here's a quick – if incomplete – rundown of what's to look out for:
- 4Knots Music Festival
- Blue Note Jazz Festival
- Catalpa NYC Music Festival
- CBGB | Festival
- Celebrate Brooklyn
- Governors Ball Music Festival
- SummerStage
- Hudson Square Music & Wine Festival
- Lincoln Center Festival
- Lincoln Center Out of Doors
- Madison Square Park Music
- Make Music New York
- Mister Sunday
- Mostly Mozart
- New York Philharmonic: Concerts in the Park
- Northside Festival
- River to River
- RiverRocks
- Warm Up
- Vision Festival
And, of course, this doesn't even include Tanglewood, Montreal, Newport, or any of the other out-of-town happenings this summer. Good thing I've still got Summer Fridays.
