Another One Bites the Dust

P7310002_2Chalk another one up to "gentrification" : on my way home last night, I was lured into the diminutive Puppet’s Jazz Bar, on what turned out to be their last night in their current location in Park Slope. For those non-Slopers: Puppet’s has been around for a couple of years, and is the only neighborhood venue featuring quality jazz on a nightly basis.P7310008 Last night turned out to be an all-night benefit blowout, but by the time I showed up around 11, they were letting people in for free. (They had been charging $10 earlier.) I hung in long enough to catch the Ray Parker Trio, the JD Allen Trio, and Bill Ware’s Pups Vibes, featuring proprietor Jaime Aff on drums. (You can watch a video of Bill Ware et. al. on Puppet’s website.)

P7310009Fortunately, Aff already has plans to reopen in mid-September in a new space at further down 5th Ave, between 11th and 12th Streets. Which, happily, is right down the street from my house, so I’m sure I’ll turn into something of a regular.
