I arrived in Montreal late this afternoon, hoping to find some day parties to fill the time before tonight's club wander. I only managed to find one: a friendly BBQ in the parking lot of the Pop Montreal headquarters at Notman House on Sherbrooke. Local singer-songwriter Snail House (pictured) sang earnest, somewhat peculiar lyrics about art and life:
"Tchiakovsky, Mozart, Debussy and Brahms/ If they'd been born the right time, would have driven Trans Ams."
"I forgot how cold it was going to be here," he said. (It's in the low 50s.) "Makes it hard to remember the songs. Not to mention play the guitar." Fortunately for the rest of us, there were $3 beer and cocktails to warm us up.
