NY Guitar Festival: Silent Films/Live Guitars at Merkin Concert Hall

by FoMNew york guitar festival 1-12-2012 7-41-08 PMI don't get out to the movies much these days (for what should be obvious reasons), so I always enjoy the rare opportunity to be able to catch some cinema while indulging my music obsession. Which is why last night's New York Guitar Festival show – featuring silent films by Buster Keaton "scored" by Twi the Humble Feather, Buke and Gase, Kaki King and Lee Ranaldo – was such fun. Twi, B&G and Kaki all tried to play with the film, reflecting the kinetic action on screen, while Ranaldo's bit was far more abstract, using "extended" guitar technique to create a dark, overpowering wall of sound.
