Mott Music

Sidebar_logo Saw a great little film at Barbes last night called Mott Music, about a piano warehouse in the Bronx where they repair and rehabilitate old pianos. At one point, the owner of Beethoven Pianos, Carl Demler, asks:

"What would the world be without music? It wouldn’t be a world at all."

Some great characters in the film, including one old German expat who used to work at Steinway, the great piano maker based in Astoria, talking about the slow death of acoustic pianos at the expense of electronic keyboards and recorded music. I had the chance to tour the Steinway factory back in 2003, and it is an essential experience for anyone that loves music and is curious about how these great instruments are made.
