Hello, Summer

The biggest bandshell crowd I've seen in seven years turned out for last night's season-opening concert at Celebrate Brooklyn, featuring David Byrne and his white-clad troupe of dancers and musicians. It was essentially the same show I saw at ACL last September, so I was content to sit outside the gates with friends and watch on the big screen. He played a mix of new songs and old favorites, including three encores which unfortunately got cut short due to Prospect Park's 10:30 curfew. After, we were walking along 8th Ave in search of a nightcap when a man in white and a knit cap approached on his old Schwinn, sending up cheers from dozens of happy concertgoers on their way home: a stark comparison to the caravan of tour buses Bob Dylan used after his show last year. Very cool. (More pics below.)
