The late set at Southpaw tonight has Shilpa Ray and her Happy Hookers playing somewhere between The Doors psychedelic trance and PJ Harvey's infernal growl. Ray leads on vocals harmonium, which at one point tips over, with only the monitors keeping it from landing in the audience. "It's all good, man" she says laconically as a couple of dudes try to right the contraption during the song. "People used to toss their instruments across the room, light them on fire and shit. It's all part of the thing, man." (More pics below.)
