"To me, music consists of melody, rhythm and harmony, and if it lacks any one of those three elements, then it's not music anymore." – Hank Jones
One of the most elegant, underrated jazz pianists of the past half-century, Hank Jones played with everyone from Ella to Bird and recorded more than 1,000 albums, both as sideman and band leader. He managed to outlive both of his younger brothers, Elvin and Thad, and performed right up until the end: he was booked to play with Joe Lovano's quartet next week at Birdland.
