A little rain wasn't enough to keep away a capacity crowd from riding the ferry to Governors Island Thursday night for an extraordinary triple bill. Experimentalists Gang Gang Dance opened, led by the magnetic, banshee-like Lizzi Bougastos. They were followed by The Walkmen, who played a retro-garage set led by the soulful Hamilton Leithauser.
Finally, after what seemed like an interminable wait in a steady downpour, headliners Grizzly Bear took the stage around 10:30, with Ed Droste and Daniel Rossen tag teaming on vocals, supported by Christopher Bear on drums and Chris Taylor on bass (and the occasional clarinet.) They played a set that ranged from quiet folk to full throttle, sending the soggy crowd into ecstatics. As Ed himself said: "What an amazing bill this has been!"
