I missed P.S.1's Warm Up today because I was setting up for my annual 4th of July backyard BBQ (email me for details!) but when I heard there was a free concert on Governors Island tonight featuring Hopewell, Alberta Cross and Portugal. The Man, I made my way to the Seaport and hopped the first ferry over. (Note: the ferries leave from Pier 11 by the Ikea ferries, not the normal G.I. Ferry terminal.) The show was part of the new Gone to Governors free Saturday concert series, sponsored by Converse and booked by Bowery Presents. There was hardly any wait, and when I got here, it was an easy walk over to the Water Taxi Beach. And, I don't know if everyone's out of town this weekend, but its easy moving around here, with no wait for either drinks or potty. The crowd is a jumble of underage kids, hipsters, and headbangers, with a whole other set content to sit on the sand and chill out. Reminds me a bit of the Pool Parties, without the dodgeball or exclusivity. With the sun setting behind fake palm trees behind us, I can't imagine a more pleasant place to be city-bound this holiday weekend. (More pics on the Flickr page.)

I also loved the metaphor of the changing seasons and how these characters, or amazing women, need to change and metamorphose.
