Conveniently located across the street from Roulette, Hank's Saloon was the setting for last night's opener of ther Brooklyn Country Music Festival: three full days and nights of the best country and western this side of the Hudson. Hosted and produced by the one-and-only Alex Battles, the festival – now in its 6th year – has tirelessly promoted the diverse country music scene indigenous to Kings County.
Hank's, which is set to close any day now, was a perfect choice for the festival's new home: a low-slung roadhouse with Old Glory behind the stage and western memorabilia tacked to the walls. At one point, Alex – several whiskeys in – grabbed a guitar wand played with a band called Smokey & The Bandit 2: Electric Boogaloo. He'll be back again on Sunday playing with his own Whiskey Rebellion, part of this year's Atlantic Antic. Stop by and have one more whiskey for the road.
