No offense to the folks who hosted the gathering for Suzanne at Issue Project Room on Monday, but at times, the recorded music felt a bit heavy and maudlin. So, it was a happy coincidence that local avant-geniuses These Are Powers had been booked to play a special one-off gig last night in a ground floor space in the Old Can Factory, to celebrate the release of their new video for "Candyman," shot at Issue's future home at 110 Livingston St. With Anna Barie's otherworldly shrieking over brass, drums and electronics, and Project Secret Robot's psychedelic visuals (including several skull-and-crossbones), the event felt like some kind of tribal ritual, a consecration, a sacred rite of passage. Somewhere, Suzanne was up and dancing. (More pics below.)
