Preview: San Francisco Symphony at Carnegie Hall

San Francisco Symphony, Carnegie Hall

Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony will finally be taking the stage at Carnegie Hall this week, after performances in March were canceled due to a comprehensive work stoppage by its musicians. Although the strike proved to be a minor blip in their spring schedule, the canceled East Coast tour was an enormous disappointment to audiences eager to see the top-tier orchestra at not only Carnegie Hall, but the Kennedy Center and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

The orchestra will be presenting two programs that could not be more different from each other: the music of Beethoven, Steven Mackey, Mozart, and Copland fill a packed program Wednesday night, while Thursday night's concert is devoted solely to Mahler's death-laden Ninth Symphony.

Tickets start at $19, available through the Carnegie Hall box office or online.
