Sad News From New Jersey

10orch190According to Dan Wakin in today’s Times, the NJSO is planning to sell off their Golden Collection of 30 rare stringed instruments, which I had the chance to hear just last week. According to André Gremillet, the orchestra’s new executive director, the move had to be made to make up for the massive deficit the orchestra is currently facing. Sorry, but there are some misplaced priorities in a town where an unconditional donation equivalent to the cost of single condo would save these instruments for generations of future audiences. Shame on us.
