Small Solace

I’ve been sitting on the tarmac at JFK for nearly three hours, waiting for the fog to clear – hopefully before the thunderstorms arrive from the west. Fortunately, Jet Blue has DirectTV, and I tune into Bravo just as “The Untouchables” begins, with its distinctive, tension-building score by Ennio Morricone. I’ve seen Brian DePalma’s film at least half-a-dozen times, but never really noticed the music before – at least not consciously. Makes one realize just how little quality film music is being written these days, which makes Morricone’s achievement of over 400 scores all the more remarkable.

Damnit, somebody get me a drink.
