I was up early listening to my usual NPR, when I switched over to local freeform station WFMU on a lark. Apparently, the 9-10am Saturday morning slot is given to a different listener each week, who can play whatever the heck they want. This morning’s host, Michael King, opted for a wild mix of everything from Stockhausen and Meredith Monk, to some homeless guy from Florida who was offered studio time in lieu of a handout. Not the standard fare from the Jersey City stalwart – which is anything but standard – but somehow it didn’t sound out of place. Here’s hoping they bring King back sometime. (If you’re out of reach of their signal, they also offer live streaming.)
As for live music, I’ll be at the Television/Apples In Stereo/Dragons of Zynth show today at Summerstage, starting at 3p. That is, assuming I get in: if not, there’s always the hill…
