I didn't make it to this past weekend's Lollapalooza, but I have several friends who made the trek to Chi-Town to see Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, the Raconteurs, and about 140 other bands. My friend Brendan stuck around an extra day to catch Tortoise play a free lunchtime show (and paid the price when a mini-tornado hit the city later that night, making him a temporary resident of O'Hare Int'l Airport for 36 hours.) Here's his recap:
"Despite
the time of day, bad weather, and being only few hours after
Lollapalooza closed it's gates, hundreds of music fans packed into
Chicago's Millennium Park for a free performance from post-rock
pioneers Tortoise. The hometown boys treated the audience to an hour of
their atmospheric instrumental tunes. And the park's state of the art
pavilion made it so you could hear each note with more clarity then any
bar or night club could ever do. Needless to say, the free lunchtime
shows at Millennium Park are a great way to kick the work week off in
style."
