On 3rd St. near 3rd Ave., Bradford stops at a car, opens the trunk, and hauls out his Pencilina: a homemade contraption that's part electric guitar, part cello, and part percussion instrument. It's sonic wail first stops a livery cab driver, then a mom and her kid biking in the opposite direction. I almost wish I were in their shoes, gifted with their surprise and wonder, in a place where you least expect it. (More pics below.)
