On the Way Home

Happiness = good music within walking distance of home. After the show at Open Source, I wandered with some others down Fifth Ave. to Roots Cafe: a Southern-flavored coffee shop that must have opened sometime in the past year when I wasn't looking. Every Friday and Saturday, they host live acoustic music in a bric-a-brac filled space about as wide as a single car garage. If you forgot to bring your own, they'll sell you cans of PBR for a $1 "donation" so you can get down to the likes of Brothers Moving: a foursome of expats from Denmark, three of whom are actual brothers. They mostly played covers, but with incredible energy and soul –  including a rendition of "A Little Help From My Friends" that turned kazoo-wielding lead singer Esben Knoblauch into the spitting image of Joe Cocker. If stuff like this happened every weekend in the Slope, I swear I'd never leave. (More pics below.)
