Summer in NYC is always my favorite time of year, when you can catch some absolutely killer music of all stripes, much of it for free. Makes you wonder why anyone would want ever feel the need for a Beach House…
Just take a look at what's going on this weekend alone:
- Tonight (7/2), the Whitney Museum kicks off its free Whitney Live concert series with High Places and Toro y Moi at 7pm (Added bonus: the entire museum is pay-what-you-wish from 6-9pm)
- Also tonight, the Seaport Music Festival kicks off its series of free indie shows with Yellowfever and Woven Bones down on Pier 17
- Tomorrow (7/3) Warm Up kicks off at P.S. 1 with Delorean, Janka Nabay and Glasser, followed by DJs in the front court. Admission is a reasonable $15 and includes museum admission
- Sunday, there are two free shows on Governor's Island: Roseanne Cash at 2pm and She and Him at 4pm. And on your way back, you can hit the Old 97's free show at the Seaport
And, to keep you occupied the rest of the summer, there are all the amazing free shows at Celebrate Brooklyn, Central Park Summerstage, and the River to River Festival. Check out the "Summertime" link roll at the top left of the homepage for more info. (The Times' Jon Caramanica also offers up a selective rundown in yesterday's edition.)

yeah! it’s summer time! wish you all the best and good luck! have a nice summer!
