Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings @ Celebrate Brooklyn

DSC06302 An overflow crowd of 20,000 packed the Prospect Park Bandshell last night for the triumphant homecoming of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, who've been out taking the world by storm since April. Easily the best show I've seen all summer, SPDK tore through a high-energy set that lasted more than two hours, channeling the best of her fellow August, GA native, James Brown (without the antics.) All due respect to Aretha, but a new Queen of Soul Funk has been crowned. (More pics on Flickr.)

You can call me “Queen Of Funk” but please…Aretha Franklin is the “Queen of Soul” and always will be…God bless her to continue on singing for a long time!
