Issue Project Room officially moves into their new space at 110 Livingston Street this week with the first-ever Stateside appearance of Holland's Gaudeamus Muziekweek, which has been presenting cutting-edge experimental and new music since 1945. Concerts will be offered by American new music ensembles like Wet Ink Ensemble and ICE (International Contemporary Ensemble) as well as artists from the Netherlands including Wouter Snoei, Yannis Kyriakides and Ensemble MAE.
The move to 110 Livingston comes some four years after Issue first announced that they had won a rent-free 20 year lease on a 5,000 square foot McKim, Mead & White space in downtown Brooklyn. Nevertheless, Issue is still $1.3 million short of the funds needed to rehabilitate the space, which, in addition to $2.5 million in basic renovations also includes $1.1 million for “theatrical outfittings” and other features, according to Issue's executive director, Ed Patuto. “We have raised enough funds to complete the first phase of renovation," Mr. Patuto was quoted as saying in last week's Times, "and at the same time we are moving in there to develop our audience and the support we need for the future.”
I plan on checking out the new space myself for the first time this Thursday; ticket for all events available now online.
